HYDROFEND TFMA-6 by Chemodyn is a dry-melt hydrophobic and oleophobic additive designed for use with polypropylene, polycarbonate, and other plastics—ideal for manufacturing low-retention pipette tips and lab devices.
Application: Incorporated as a dry melt additive during injection molding processes.
Appearance: Transparent/colorless.
Water Contact Angle: Exceeds 110° for strong hydrophobicity.
Mineral Oil Contact Angle: Greater than 65°, ensuring oleophobic performance.
When compounded into polypropylene at just 0.5%, TFMA-6 enhances plastic components with water-, oil-, buffer-, and solvent-repellent properties. It helps prevent adhesion of biological fluids and various laboratory materials to device surfaces.
Chemodyn TFMA-6 is widely used across biomedical, research, and industrial settings in products like pipette tips, tubing, and microcentrifuge tubes, where cleanliness and fluid resistance are critical.
Compounding TFMA-6
TFMA-6 is available as a solid and is typically ground into a fine powder by the compounder.
Compounding is the process of melting a polymer resin and blending it with additives like TFMA-6.
Melt the polypropylene and incorporate TFMA-6 at a concentration of 0.5%.
Achieving a uniform distribution of TFMA-6 within the polypropylene is essential.
The resulting mixture or composite is then ready for injection moulding, using instructions suitable for the specific parts being manufactured.
The TFMA-6-infused composite should not be exposed to temperatures exceeding 250°C.
